Cdr. Frank Slattery (CO of the ill fated Scorpion) qualified on TUNNY in early 1957. He was to be presented his dolphins by Capt. M. S. Blair on a cool spring morning as we were moored in Port Huneme Ca. Dressed in his finest khaki uniform, Upon receiving his dolphins, Capt. Blair told Slattery to go below, change into a working khaki uniform and report topside. Slattery knew he was going "over the side," into that frigid California water, but not without a fight! Eventually he went in and when he climbed aboard soaking wet everyone was having a good laugh, especially Ltjg Scott. Slattery turned to Scott and said, "I don't know why you are laughing, I've got your shoes on."
